The EV Electro-Voice ELX115 Passive PA Speaker is a popular choice for these discerning clients who understand the value of investing in genuine, professional-grade gear. At City Sounds Nairobi, located conveniently on Luthuli Avenue, we pride ourselves on supplying authentic Electro-Voice products, ensuring that our customers receive the full manufacturer's warranty and the unparalleled support that comes with purchasing from Nairobi's premier music store. The EV Electro-Voice ELX115 Passive PA Speaker is built to withstand the rigors of the road and the demands of frequent use in various environments. Its cabinet is constructed from robust 15mm plywood, finished with a durable, textured coating that resists scuffs and scratches, ensuring it maintains a professional appearance even after countless gigs. Internal bracing enhances structural integrity, minimizing unwanted resonance and cabinet vibrations that could degrade audio quality. The heavy-duty, powder-coated steel grille protects the high-frequency driver and woofer from accidental impacts, making it a reliable workhorse for any application.
Ergonomically designed for ease of transport and setup, the ELX115 features strategically placed, comfortable pistol-grip handles that make lifting and carrying significantly less strenuous. Its trapezoidal shape is not just for aesthetics; it allows for tight clustering when used in arrays and can be positioned as an onstage monitor without creating excessive feedback. Weighing in at a manageable 18.4 kg (40.57 lbs), it offers a compelling balance of substantial driver size and portability, making it a more practical option than some heavier, bulkier competitors for mobile DJs or bands that frequently relocate. This thoughtful design ensures that setting up your PA system in Nairobi or beyond is a straightforward process, especially when paired with a quality amplifier in Nairobi.
At the heart of the EV Electro-Voice ELX115 Passive PA Speaker lies a high-performance 15-inch woofer, engineered for exceptional low-frequency response and clarity. This driver boasts a sensitivity rating of 94 dB (SPL @ 1W, 1m), meaning it efficiently converts amplifier power into sound, providing ample volume and headroom even when pushed. Its extended frequency response, covering 55 Hz to 18 kHz (±3 dB), ensures that even without a subwoofer, the ELX115 can reproduce a full range of musical content with impressive accuracy, from the deepest bass notes to crisp transients. The robust voice coil and cone construction are designed for longevity and consistent performance under demanding thermal loads, crucial for prolonged live performances.
Complementing the woofer is a 1.5-inch high-frequency titanium diaphragm compression driver, coupled with a 60° x 40° waveguide. This combination is meticulously designed to deliver smooth, clear, and precisely dispersed high frequencies, cutting through the mix without sounding harsh or fatiguing. The waveguide ensures consistent coverage across the intended listening area, minimizing off-axis coloration and providing a uniform sound experience for the audience, whether they are at the front of the stage or further back in a Nairobi venue. This attention to driver integration is a hallmark of Electro-Voice engineering, resulting in a speaker that sounds natural and powerful, making the EV Electro-Voice ELX115 Passive PA Speaker an excellent choice for vocal reinforcement and detailed musical reproduction.
When paired with a suitable power amplifier, the ELX115 can handle up to 300W RMS / 1200W Peak power, delivering a maximum SPL of 135 dB. This considerable output capability means the speaker can easily fill medium to large venues in Kenya with clear, impactful sound, making it suitable for everything from intimate club gigs to larger church auditoriums or outdoor corporate events. The substantial headroom provided by this power handling ensures that dynamic passages in music or speech are reproduced without clipping or distortion, maintaining audio integrity and listener enjoyment throughout the performance. This makes the EV Electro-Voice ELX115 Passive PA Speaker a versatile option for a wide array of sound reinforcement needs.
The EV Electro-Voice ELX115 Passive PA Speaker is designed for straightforward integration into virtually any sound system. It features two industry-standard input connectors: a single Neutrik Speakon NL4 connector and a 1/4-inch phone jack. This dual connectivity option provides flexibility, allowing users to employ the most suitable speaker cable for their setup, whether connecting to an external power amplifier or daisy-chaining multiple speakers (though passive speakers are typically driven by separate amplifier channels for optimal control). The robust Speakon connector ensures a secure, high-current connection, essential for reliable operation during demanding live sound applications.
The passive nature of the ELX115 offers significant advantages for users who already possess or plan to invest in separate power amplifiers. This allows for a more tailored approach to system design, enabling users to match specific amplifier power and characteristics to the ELX115's capabilities for optimal performance and speaker longevity. For users in Nairobi looking to build a flexible PA system, the ELX115 serves as an excellent foundation, easily integrated with various mixers in Nairobi and other audio processing gear. Whether you are setting up a permanent installation for a church or a mobile rig for DJ events, the straightforward connectivity of this speaker ensures a hassle-free experience, making the EV Electro-Voice ELX115 Passive PA Speaker a practical choice for diverse audio needs.
